InspiringApps CEO Brad Weber Joins the Exclusive Fast Company Impact Council

2/8/2024

Boulder, CO—In the latest article from Built In Colorado, InspiringApps’ Director of Marketing, Stephanie Mikuls, joins other leaders in sharing how companies can cultivate employee trust through an open and transparent culture. Encouraging a culture of transparency is a continual, intentional process at InspiringApps. We set and share our goals at the beginning of the year, so our employees feel confident about the future. But we also report on our progress against those goals and continuously encourage feedback. In addition to being a marketing director, I’m also a photographer—and that lens makes me very aware of the “vibe in the room.” As a leader, I strive to create a positive environment and communicate respectfully and genuinely. That includes little moments, big moments, and everything in between—whether it’s through a Slack channel, on a weekly sync, or at a formal company meeting. The more my team sees open communication from me, the more likely they are to model that behavior too. Add to that including the team in decision-making, and everyone can feel free to ask what’s on their minds, no matter the topic. How do you make yourself available to employees so that they can ask relevant questions? As a best practice, we employ many channels to provide feedback: anonymously, one on one, in team brainstorming sessions, individual reviews, regular town halls, surveys, and more. But what’s important, regardless of the method of communication, is to truly invite everyone to join, participate, and be heard. Otherwise, we’re not really making ourselves available to others. In our industry, open and inclusive conversations don’t just make for good company culture. They make us more empathetic and effective designers and developers. Our products are truly better when a collective “sharing of thoughts” occurs. So we’ve cultivated an open, inclusive environment for years. It’s not just one conversation or meeting—it’s happening all the time.  To hear as many voices as possible, we make transparency a natural part of the way we approach our jobs. We don’t just want the loudest voice or the most-tenured voice. We’re cognizant of the mix of personalities, preferences, and other unique qualities that individuals on our team may have. There is a day-to-day opportunity for anyone to ask questions and get the answers they need to feel supported in their work. What tips would you share with fellow leaders who are endeavoring to create a culture of transparency right now? Approach others with empathy. Make a conscious effort to be open. Empower every individual. Assume positive intent. And constantly seek to improve.

InspiringApps Named to Inc.’s Second Annual Power Partner Awards

10/23/2023

Boulder, CO—In the latest article from Built In Colorado, InspiringApps’ Director of Operations, Stacy Griffin, joins other leaders in sharing their career journeys, the lessons they’ve learned, and their advice for other women. My career journey spans over 20 years in technology, project management, and people management. I started out as a developer at IBM and then moved into a developer lead role, which is when I began managing projects. From there, I pivoted to a formal project management role, which involved interacting with the business, gathering requirements, and managing technical project delivery. I eventually joined InspiringApps as a project manager, applying those same skills. Recently, I was promoted to director of operations, a new strategic role. I manage people and projects as a member of the leadership team. I’m also involved more on the sales side. My job requires managing a team of developers and overseeing client engagements and project lifecycle and delivery. It requires a lot of communication with clients and developers, both of whom have distinct working styles. To set expectations, I draw from years of experience in listening and applying empathy. I also have a master’s in computer science, which gives me aptitude and credibility with technical audiences. What advice do you have for other women who manage tech teams or aspire to? I have two pieces of advice for women who aspire to manage tech teams. First, find a role model. Look for mentors, ask questions and try to learn from the people around you. Secondly, avoid imposter syndrome. You should feel comfortable in your own skin. Remember that you’ve earned your seat at the table. What’s one important lesson you’ve learned in your time as a leader, and how has that made you a better manager? I’ve learned that there’s no single right way to manage people. Having the courage to manage in a way that’s comfortable and authentic to my personality allows me to lean into my strengths and improve in areas where I need to grow.  It’s also important to know that treating people with autonomy and respect builds trust. People appreciate it when you’re honest and open. I’m not a micromanager, and I naturally take the role of supporting people. I’ve learned to combine open dialog with frequent check-ins. Bringing my authentic self to work makes me a better manager.

The company is doubling down on its commitment to its local communities as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion with IA Commits. Boulder, CO—InspiringApps, a premier software and app development company, introduces IA Commits, a new way to support non-profit organizations important to the InspiringApps team. The IA Commits vision sprouted from InspiringApps employee feedback during a recent Great Place to Work® employee engagement survey. The team, which includes highly-experienced, tenured software developers, designers, and creatives, wanted to give back to the communities in which they live while offering mentorship opportunities and experience for underrepresented software developers without a computer science degree or comparable industry experience. IA Commits provides an affordable option for local organizations, limited-budget, and not-for-profit clients to bring their web and mobile app dreams to life. With this program, clients can expect a high-quality digital product developed in collaboration with up-and-coming developers and the InspiringApps experienced development team for a fraction of the cost of typical projects. “Company culture is essential to us. So when our employees provide feedback, we listen. IA Commits is a testament to our creative problem-solving and our commitment to serving our communities and aspiring software developers,” said Brad Weber, President and CEO of InspiringApps. “IA Commits supports our core values of inclusion and integrity, and we’re honored to be able to give back.” The program also aims to change the face of today’s tech industry by providing career and training opportunities to underrepresented aspiring developers and coders. “Finding your first job as a professional developer can be a challenge. Many companies favor candidates with years of experience and a computer science degree,” Stacy Griffin, Director of Operations, said. “With IA Commits, we’re filling gaps in coding knowledge and providing mentorship and experience to new developers on real client projects. We also help build the soft skills that are so important: team collaboration, client service, and managing business challenges.” The new training program prepares developers to service clients by helping our communities. InspiringApps Leverages Employee Feedback to Launch IA Commits

11/2/2022

BOULDER, CO -- After nearly a decade and a half of the same look and feel, InspiringApps is glowing up–and it only took pivot to remote work for inspiration to strike. The company, an industry-leading web and mobile app and software solutions group headquartered in Boulder, officially launched an innovative new brand and website encompassing its roots and plans for the future.  While some companies struggled to work collaboratively and adjust to the new reality of remote teams, the InspiringApps team took on the massive challenge to become more cohesive than before.  “Emerging from over a year of pandemic isolation and recognizing that InspiringApps had used the same branding for over a decade, it was the perfect time for a change. Our teams are doing amazing work for start-ups and huge enterprises alike. I welcomed a fresh perspective on our logo and color schemes,” Brad Weber, founder and president of InspiringApps shared. InspiringApps’ new logo reflects the company’s collaborative nature, combining efforts from our UI/UX and marketing teams.  “We collaborated a lot remotely; we had Slack open, cameras on, and worked from shared Adobe XD artboards, moving elements around while we discussed them. It was a powerful way to leverage technology for a smoother, more collaborative process,” Becca Collins, UI/UX designer, explains. “Somehow, working remotely with shared screens produced even better results than we could have achieved if we were in the same office,” Aaron Lea, Art Director, noted. The team started with a concept that encapsulated the InspiringApps foundation: the original location in Boulder, Colorado, the code that developers use to build web and mobile apps, and the core values the team holds at the center of everything they do. Designers visually translated these elements into three simplified shapes: a triangle to encompass the mountainous Flatirons of Boulder, and a semicolon and less-than symbol representing code. Designers merged the three symbols into an abstract I and A–the company’s abbreviated initials–for a unique and meaningful new logo. Although the company leads with intentional design with clients, rapid growth brought an increased demand for the services and little time for internal branding. For several years, the original design established the InspiringApps brand, but that logo had limitations.  “The logo served us well initially, but it was hard to work with. It was time for a change,” Aaron said. A newly designed dynamic website accompanied the brand’s unveiling. On the new site, visitors can find valuable resources and downloads, case studies, and advice for companies considering a mobile or web app. The site also includes case studies from past clients to inspire new ideas. “Our goal is to provide a design and web experience that reflects our mission and core values. We’re committed to putting just as much care and intention into your project as we did with our own,” Brad shared.
